The Deer Creek Warriors softball team went 4-2 during the North State Tournament and advanced as the 4 seed in this year’s 2A state softball tournament. Game one on Saturday, the Warriors defeated Discovery Christian by a score of 15-0. The Warriors had 14 hits and Sandy Dominguez threw a no hitter. Game two was a back and forth battle with Indianola Academy that saw the Warriors lose a 15-14 game in the last inning. The Warriors were led offensively by Karlie Scarborough, Kadee Sullivan, Sandy Dominguez and Molli Ray who each had multiple hits in the contest. Deer Creek then matched up with North Sunflower, where the Warriors won 13-2, All nine players in the lineup recorded a hit with senior Alyssa Stone going 3-3 with a single, double and a triple. Deer Creek’s fourth and final game of the day matched them up against Manchester Academy. Down 3-0 in the 5th inning, the Warriors put up seven runs in the 5th inning and five more in the sixth to take control of the game and win 12-5. Karlie Scarborough, Alyssa Stone, Gracie Scarborough, Kinley Turney and Molli Ray each collected multiple hits. Dominguez threw her fourth game of the day and collected the win on the mound going 7 innings and allowing 4 earned runs. Winning this game moved the Warriors to Monday, where they matched up with Central Holmes. Deer Creek scored 2 runs in the first, 4 in the second and 1 in the third to race out to a 7-4 lead. After a RBI double by Addy Lemonis and a sacrifice fly by Sarah Scott Smyly in the seventh, the Warriors took a 9-4 lead that they would not let up. Senior Alyssa Stone continued her hot hitting with two more hits during this game and Dominguez continued her winning ways on the mound by pitching another complete game and only allowing 3 earned runs. Their sixth game of the North State tournament saw them again match up with Indianola Academy and another tight contest went the Lady Colonels way as they won 6-5.
Winning 4 games continued Deer Creek’s season into the State Championship tournament. The Warriors match up with Centreville Academy on Monday morning at 11 AM at the Sports Complex in Magee, Mississippi. Lamar Christian and Indianola Academy are also a part of the tournament. The top two teams from this tournament will advance to a best of three series for the state championship. The Lady Warriors softball team has won 20 games this season and look to continue their hot streak next week!
